WHO launches new platform featuring digital resources on ending TB
The World Health Organization (WHO) Global Tuberculosis Programme has created an online platform to help users find practical advice to implement digital technologies to support TB care worldwide. The platform includes easy access to guidelines and job aids developed by WHO and technical partners, as well as links to key literature and country examples. The content is organized around four functions: person-centred care, programme management, surveillance and monitoring, and eLearning. The online platform will be updated regularly with the most recent guidance and tools.
“Digital health is rapidly evolving and the opportunities provided by new developments, such as artificial intelligence, need to be actively exploited”, said Dr Tereza Kasaeva, Director of WHO’s Global Tuberculosis Programme. “At WHO we constantly endeavor to provide reliable and meaningful support for national programmes and implementers to enable access to proven digital tools for efficient implementation of TB services and enhanced quality of TB care. The launch of this online platform is one more step in that direction”.
The WHO Global Tuberculosis Programme engages with Member States and partners to promote the use of digital technologies to achieve targets set in the End TB Strategy, through guidance and technical assistance. A consultation on digital technologies for TB was convened in November 2022 in Geneva. This meeting allowed countries and partners to discuss recent trial data and programme experiences on use of different digital technologies to enhance the implementation of TB services. The creation of the online platform is one of the outcomes of this meeting.
