WHO issues updated recommendations on TB infection prevention and control

The World Health Organization has just issued updated WHO guidelines on TB infection prevention and control. These guidelines outline a new evidence-based framework that promotes the implementation of an integrated package of Infection Prevention & Control (IPC) interventions based on administrative, engineering, and respiratory protection controls. This will contribute to cutting transmission and reducing the burden of TB illness and death to reach the global targets of the End TB Strategy and the political declaration of the UN High Level meeting on TB.

WHO/Europe: New expert group on DR-TB to support more and better national research for treatment of resistant forms of TB

WHO has facilitated the creation of a new expert group on drug-resistant tuberculosis (DR-TB) to support Member States in improving their research on treatment. The areas of focus of the group, part of the WHO European Tuberculosis Research Initiative (ERI-TB), were agreed at a planning meeting in Vienna, Austria, on 22 February 2019.

Civil society, countries and partners commit to step up action to end TB in the Western Pacific Region

25 January 2018 | Seoul, Republic of Korea – An outcome statement to step up action to end TB was released today outlining pledges of support from civil society, countries and partners. The statement highlights key opportunities, actions and next steps to empower and strengthen community and civil society engagement to end TB, and is the culmination of a landmark consultation organized by the WHO Regional Office of the Western Pacific and the Korean Institute of Tuberculosis (KIT) on 11-13 December. The workshop brought together more than 40 participants from countries and partners, including the regional members of the revamped WHO Civil Society Task Force to strengthen global and regional mechanisms for civil society engagement.

New project launched to consolidate sustainable TB care models in eastern Europe and central Asia

A new Tuberculosis Regional Eastern European and Central Asian Project, referred to as TB-REP 2.0, has been launched. This project for 2019 to 2022, building on the previous TB-REP from 2016 to 2018, will consolidate past achievements and address new and remaining challenges while ensuring continuity.
