The Union will kick off the 44th Union World Conference on Lung Health with a gala fundraising dinner to be held on Wednesday, 30 October, in Paris, France. The 2nd President's Centennial Dinner is raising funds for education and research as part of The Union Centennial Campaign (1920-2020).
The Centennial Campaign honours the upcoming 100th anniversary of The Union, which was founded in Paris in 1920 by 31 national lung associations to create a central resource that could leverage their separate efforts to stop tuberculosis (TB). The Union has been organising conferences, conducting and disseminating research and providing education and training ever since. Today it is active in 152 countries and focuses on TB, multidrug-resistant TB, HIV/AIDS, tobacco control and operational research.
The goal of the Centennial Campaign is to raise unrestricted funds for the independent and innovative education and research programmes that have been key to The Union's contributions to the fight against TB and other public health problems. The campaign was launched at the 1st President's Centennial Dinner, held last November in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Future dinners will also be held in conjunction with The Union's annual World Conference.
